How to pass the Dutch A2 test in Flanders, Belgium (2026 guide)
Which level do you need?
In the Flemish civic-integration path (inburgering) the Dutch target is currently CEFR A2. For Belgian nationality you need at least A2 in one of the three national languages (Belgian Nationality Code art. 1 §2 5°, text as updated to 10-03-2026). In some cases you must prove B1 oral 24 months after your integration certificate.
Coming up: the Flemish Government plans to raise the civic-integration requirement to B1 oral from 1 September 2027. The federal government also plans B1 for nationality, but on 9 October 2026 the official legal text still says A2.
What does the test look like?
Four parts: reading, listening, speaking, writing (A2).
At most two half-days, often over two days: reading + listening first; if you pass, speaking + writing.
Results within three weeks at the latest.
The full test for a nationality application costs €180 (€90 oral + €90 written). The exemption test is free if you have not signed an integration contract yet and it is your first attempt.
Test centres: Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering Bruges, Kortrijk, Hasselt; Atlas Antwerp; Amal Ghent; Huis van het Nederlands Brussels.
